Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - Cobrinha Westside

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art, sport, and a self defense system that focuses on grappling, and particularly ground fighting. People who study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu learn that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against someone bigger and stronger via leverage and technique, often taking the fight to the ground and by applying joint locks and choke holds.

At Westside Training Center, we are proud to be an affiliate of multiple time World, Pan Am and ADCC champion Rubens "Cobrinha" CharlesStudents in our fundamentals class learn basic BJJ techniques, and develop core strength. Students of all backgrounds are welcome, and range from those without a sports background and limited athletic ability to Division 1 college athletes. This class is a fun way to learn the basics of BJJ, it will get you into shape, and you will be training in a friendly environment with a fantastic group of people.

Our intermediate/advanced class is a more intense workout, and assumes students already know BJJ basics. Techniques taught in this class are advanced, and cutting edge in the sport.

Thai Kickboxing

Muay Thai, or "Thai Kickboxing", is sometimes called the "Art of Eight Limbs" because it teaches strikes with punches, kicks, knees, and elbows.  It is often referred to as the "most effective" striking sport as the punches & kicks delivered are more powerful than any other martial art.  A typical Thai Kickboxing class consists of a warm-up, cardio/body-weight exercises, and punching/kicking/knee/elbow combinations with padwork.

  • Enhanced coordination and balance

Cardio Kickboxing Women Los Angeles

This is a great class for girls and women of all ages and athletic backgrounds to get into great shape while learning legitimate Thai Kickboxing techniques. This class will make you sweat, tone your body, and teach you how to throw powerful kicks and punches, all in a fun and friendly environment.

Our Youth Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program provides all the benefits of adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but is geared towards youth/young adults.  Our program emphasizes safety, respect, discipline, and is open to students of all atheletic abilities.  William, our lead instructor, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Worlds medalist, former olympian, and an amazing role model, teaches under the Cobrinha BJJ system.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is arguably the best martial art to learn for self defense, and gives students the confidence and skills to make them "bully proof".

William Candelario, a black belt in several martial arts disciplines, and a fantastic kids instructor, teaches the Toddler's Karate class, in which the students learn:

  • Coordination, Balance, and Fitness providing an athletic base for a lifetime of activity
  • Confidence and Self Esteem for bully prevention and overcoming fear
  • Discipline serving as a foundation for success in school, and in life
  • Social Skills for positive peer interaction
  • Life Skills for handling confrontation, and knowing what to do when a stranger approaches
